Recently we’ve had a heated discussion on whether it’s acceptable to start a supermarket in the dormitory.
Some students are in favour of this idea, arguing that it significantly enhances convenience for their daily lives. By having essential items readily available just steps away, students save valuable time and effort. Moreover, the supermarket offers highly affordable prices, effectively reducing their financial burdens, which is especially beneficial for those with limited budgets. Proponents also highlight that such an endeavor fosters a sense of independence and cultivates practical survival skills, preparing students for future challenges beyond campus.
On the other hand, opponents raise valid concerns about potential disruptions. They argue that the constant activity and noise generated by the supermarket could disturb the peace and quiet of other residents in the dormitory, creating an uncomfortable living environment. Additionally, some worry that the allure of shopping might divert students’ attention from their studies, potentially leading to decreased academic performance and a lack of focus on their primary responsibilities.
In my view, the feasibility of the dormitory supermarket hinges on strict adherence to school regulations and the students’ ability to balance their business activities with academic commitments. If they can operate it responsibly without causing disturbances, it could be a valuable addition to campus life. However, if the risks outweigh the benefits, it may be best to reconsider the idea. Ultimately, maintaining a harmonious balance between convenience and community well-being is essential.
